Carolyn Mary Wilhelm MFA, M.Div., found her spiritual ministry through her painting and her Quaker practice of listening in prayerful silence for the “still, small, Voice” of God (1 Kings 19: 12). This listening led her to paint a powerful body of work called The Soldier Series which portrays a soldier’s journey of healing from the violence of war. Carolyn experienced a surprising encounter with Mother Mary, which led to a deep relationship with Jesus. Carolyn trained as a spiritual director with the Jesuits and in the Spiritual Exercises in Everyday Life (SEEL). With her Rabbi husband, they received their Masters of Divinity from Marylhurst University. Currently, they are creating a small interfaith retreat center in the woods of the Cascade mountains in Trout Lake, Washington. She continues her spiritual direction practice in Portland and in Trout Lake. Carolyn calls herself a “Franciscan-Presby-Quakolic,” believing that God is too gloriously large to be contained in any one human definition. She offers tools for the discernment of God’s presence, including the SEEL retreat and Art and Spirit classes. Carolyn finds great joy in accompanying others as they explore their own unique relationship with God.
